POST AND BEAM, FLOOR TO CEILING FIREPLACE
Modern in Mount Seymour
Located in North Vancouver, "Modern in Mount Seymour" is an architectural dream and a true labor of love. Drawn to the home’s unique foundational "bones"—including oversized windows, vaulted ceilings, and classic post-and-beam construction—our interior design company set out to modernize the space while honoring its mid-century heritage.
The clients' primary objective was to open the main floor as much as possible to create a seamless, cohesive flow, all while retaining the monumental, central floor-to-ceiling fireplace. To accommodate their evolving functional needs, the floor plan was strategically reconfigured to introduce a second bedroom and bathroom on the main level, positioned perfectly alongside the primary suite.
To ensure the original architecture remained the defining feature, we kept the supplementary design detailing intentionally minimal. We amplified the structural drama by staining the existing post-and-beam ceilings a rich, dark hue, establishing a sophisticated, high-contrast foundation. A vibrant, bright yellow front door delivers an immediate "wow" factor upon arrival, with thoughtful yellow accents carried throughout the interior to create a perfectly balanced, energetic palette.
Led by top Vancouver interior designer Reisa Pollard—whose personal style was even inspired by the home's striking colors and patterns—every element was curated to seamlessly blend past design eras with contemporary refinement. The final result is a stunning, high-contrast open space that stands as a premier example of luxury interior design in Vancouver, offering a masterful nod to mid-century architecture within a highly livable modern sanctuary.
